Frequently Asked Questions

  • Central Park rides are $350 per person and are private, limited to two guests, with a professional guide and groom included. Off-site rides are priced separately; details are shared when availability is announced to our email list.

  • Yes. Each month, we set aside a limited number of complimentary and community rides for individuals and organizations for whom cost would otherwise be a barrier. Those experiencing financial hardship may express interest by sending a brief letter or postcard to Manhattan Saddlery, Attn: Miller’s Horse Co., 117 East 24th Street, New York, New York 10010.

  • No prior riding experience is required for Central Park rides. We're equally happy to ride with experienced equestrians and first-time riders, and each session is paced and guided to suit our guests' comfort and experience. Off-site and open-space rides require some prior riding experience; details and requirements are shared when availability is announced.

  • We recommend comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. Closed-toe shoes with a small heel and long pants are required. High-quality riding helmets are provided and professionally fitted for each guest; helmets are cleaned and sanitized after every ride. There’s no need for special riding attire, although experienced riders are welcome to bring their own ASTM/SEI-certified helmet and wear whatever they feel most comfortable in.

  • Rides last approximately 90 minutes. The full Central Park bridle path is just over four miles, and rides proceed at gaits appropriate to riders’ comfort and experience level. Timing may vary slightly depending on the day’s conditions.

  • Rides operate at management’s discretion with safety as the priority. For legal and welfare reasons, horses do not work when temperatures exceed 90°F or fall below 32°F, and rides may also be postponed due to heavy rain, high winds, or other unsafe conditions. If a ride is cancelled due to weather, guests will be offered the option to reschedule (subject to availability) or receive a full refund.

  • Yes. The minimum age to ride is 12, and the maximum rider weight is 220 pounds. Guests must be able to mount with minimal assistance using a mounting block and maintain independent balance at the walk and trot.

  • Yes! We (and our horses) love photos. Guides are happy to accommodate photo opportunities during the ride, where safety and conditions allow.

  • Please arrive on time for your scheduled ride. Late arrivals may result in a shortened experience or cancellation if the ride cannot safely proceed as planned.

  • Because rides are private, involve advance staffing, and require dedicated horses and equipment, we ask for notice if plans change. Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the scheduled ride receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the scheduled ride are non-refundable, as are no-shows or same-day cancellations.
